I enjoy collecting Lord of the Rings Action Figures, there virtually fifty in my Lord of the Rings Action Figure Collection. I like to get into the back story of each character in my collection. Here is a basic overview of the Lord of the Rings.

The Lord of the Rings is an larger-than-life great fantasy story written by philologist and Oxford University professor J. R. R. Tolkien. The legend began as a sequel to Tolkien’s earlier, less complicated children’s fantasy novel The Hobbit in the 1930s, however it eventually developed into a much larger work. It had been written in stages in the 1930s and into the late 1940s, a lot of of it throughout World War II. Though usually known to readers as a trilogy, the tale was initially intended by Tolkien to be one volume of a 2-volume set along with The Silmarillion; however, the publisher set to omit the second volume and instead revealed The Lord of the Rings in 1954 as 3 books instead of one, for monetary reasons. It has since been reprinted various times and translated into several languages, turning into one in all the foremost well-liked and important works in twentieth-century literature.

The tale of The Lord of the Rings begins with many events that happen in The Hobbit. Traveling lost in an exceedingly cavernous cave, Bilbo Baggins, a Hobbit-one in all a little, gentle race concerning 0.5 the size of Men-stumbles upon a ring and takes it back with him to the Shire, the part of Middle-earth that is the Hobbits’ home. All Bilbo is aware of of his ring is that wearing it causes him to become invisible. He is unaware that it’s the One Ring, and is thus oblivious to its meaning and to the actual fact that Sauron has been searching for it.

The whole tale takes place within the framework of historical events in Middle-earth. In those histories, prior to the beginning of the story and not known to the most characters, Sauron forges the Ruling Ring in Mordor. In battle, Isildur cuts off Sauron’s ring and claims it for himself. Isildur is later killed by Orcs, and the Ring is lost within the river Anduin. Over 2 thousand years later, Gollum murderously obtains the Ring while fishing in the river. Gollum keeps the Ring for practically 5 hundred years before losing it, whereupon Bilbo Baggins finds it. In the mean time, Sauron, whose essence was kept alive by the Ring, reoccupies Mordor. Gollum sets out in search of the Ring, however is captured near Mordor and questioned by Sauron, who learns of its finding by Bilbo. Gollum is about loose but is caught by Aragorn, Isildur’s heir, and imprisoned by the Elves in Mirkwood. Meanwhile, Sauron sends forth his servants, the Ringwraiths, to grab the Ring.

By the end, Saruman gets away from Orthanc and enslaves the Shire; but the returning Hobbits raise a rebellion and overthrow Saruman in The Battle of Bywater. Merry and Pippin are acclaimed as heroes. Sam uses his gifts from Galadriel to restore and beautify the Shire, and marries Rosie Cotton. Frodo remains wounded in body and spirit and, accompanied by Bilbo and Gandalf, sails from the Grey Havens west over the Ocean to the Timeless Lands to find peace. Sam returns home, and eventually becomes Mayor. Sam leaves the Red Book of Westmarch together with his daughter, and crosses west over the Ocean, the last of the Ring-bearers.
